Day Tripping: Valentine's Day 2009

This Valentine's Day, my husband and I decided to hop in the car and take a drive up to Palos Verdes for the day, thanks to a trip recommendation from Sunset Magazine. Neither of us had ever been there or ever really had a desire to go, but being a SoCal native, I thought it would be a good idea to check it out at some point. Why not?

We were blessed with another beautiful California winter day and perfectly clear visibility of Catalina Island. Our first stop was Wayfarer's Chapel, which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son. It's a beautiful example of organic architecture. The inside and outside of the chapel interact with one another making it difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins.

Next stop was the Point Vicente Interpretive Center which is situated along the cliffs and provides a breathtaking view of the coastline, the lighthouse, the islands and migrating whales all in one. I recommend taking some time to stroll the grounds and visit the museum inside the center.

The perfect ending for this beautiful day was spent enjoying dinner and margaritas. Ahhh...what a simple, lovely way to spend quality time with my hubby.
