Rising Sun & Co.: Mike Hodis Rises Above the Rest

Here's a little story for ya...

On a day trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena earlier this month we stopped into an English Pub for a cold one and met a couple of interesting gents in vintage-inspired attire.  Come to find out, one of the men, Mike Hodis, designs for his own denim shop in downtown Pasadena called Rising Sun & Co.

Rising Sun & Co. is not your typical high priced, premium denim brand.  All denim designs (starting at $500 a pair) are taken directly from old, vintage denim patterns replicated from items found in coal mines and other sources.

Later that evening (after several libations) Mr. Hodis opened his store for us for a private tour and impromptu fitting session.  The store is amazing - it feels like an old-fashioned general store/saloon and is a museum of one-of-a kind vintage photos and artifacts from the old west.

The back room workshop is where all of the denim patterns are cut by hand and sown with vintage Singer machines.

Rising Sun & Co. is the result of one man's passion for old-fashioned, quality, hand-made craftsmanship. Check out this video of Mike Hodis as he talks about Rising Sun’s story...

You MUST visit his store for an amazing experience and tell Mike that you read about him on my blog!
